The Coal House Lodge: Rustic Romance at the End of Main Street

Down at the quiet end of Main Street, just past the beautiful covered bridge and tucked into the old river bottoms, visitors will find one of the most unique stops on this year’s Christmas Homes Tour: The Coal House Lodge.

Originally built as a coal elevator to supply fuel for the town mill, the structure was transformed in 2015 by owners Jeff and Tracy into a charming bed-and-breakfast unlike any other. Their first renovation created a single spacious suite spanning the top two floors of the building, blending the building’s industrial past with soft, rustic elegance.

In 2024, the couple added The Nook, a cozy new room that carries the same romantic charm. But the lodge is only one part of the experience on these grounds. Steps away sits The Coal House Saloon, Jeff and Tracy’s open-air, eclectic bar filled with character and conversation pieces.

Guests will find everything from the back end of a Volkswagen to vintage barber chairs to an old spittoon—each item adding to the saloon’s whimsical, laid-back atmosphere. It’s become a favorite spot for a casual drink, and it also serves as a unique venue for wedding receptions, complete with a quaint on-site chapel.

The property is also home to Jeff’s Architectural Salvage, a treasure-filled barn packed from floor to rafters with architectural finds. Whether you’re hunting for antique doorknobs, barn wood, hardware, or—quite literally—the kitchen sink, it’s a picker’s paradise.

For the Christmas Homes Tour, guests will have the rare opportunity to explore several highlights of the property, including the covered bridge, the Coal House Saloon, and both rooms of the lodge beautifully decorated for the season.
